For ten days, we are making the Maryborough Showgrounds our home. However, it is important to remember that the wildlife that live here have been calling this place home long before we came along, and will continue to live here once we’re gone.
Acknowledging part of our Scout Law that advises all Scouts to be respectful and do what is right, we must remember that this relates to both humans and animals. Throughout our Jamboree there have been many sightings of wildlife, and we want to ensure that all people on site are respectful and caring.
Please remember! Just because an animal is friend shaped, does not mean it is friendly!
For example…
A Goanna may look friend shaped, but they should only hug the trees and not the humans.

Another example of a friend shaped critter is a frog. However, frogs should be friends from a distance and should not be touched. They are a socially anxious friend.

Some not so friend shaped animals are snakes and Cane Toads.
These animals are not friend shaped and if seen should be left alone.

In the case of a snake, report it immediately for the safety of other humans and animals and respect their space.
This is their home, we are the visitors and we need to respect it. Let’s look after our new friends.
