As you enter the Your Action activity base, it’s impossible to miss the low hum of the cooler racing and the laughs coming from the air-blower soccer, pioneering and archery. It has a great variety of outdoor adventures and is a great opportunity for Scouts to try something new!
Laser tag is always a hit at camps, and it was clear that AJ2025 was no different. With competitive spirits high, some Scouts from Unit T049 expressed how excited they were to tag people, and to beat the other team!
Pioneering was in full swing (pun intended), with a manual, rope-controlled swing, and some catapulting of wet sponges. These activities allowed Scouts to practice their OAS pioneering skills in a fun and entertaining way! Oliver W from T061 expressed his surprise at the catapult’s function, saying “it was a bit sketchy, but it worked”. It was clear to see that Rhys from T061 enjoyed the pioneering too, as he rattled off synonyms for ‘great’ just to try and get quoted in this article. Well done, Rhys, I’m glad you had an “unreal experience” at Your Action!

One of the most anticipated activities is the cooler racing. Where Scouts rode on eskies, also known as coolers, chilly bins or ice boxes, which have been fitted with a motor, wheels, handles and an accelerator button. Scouts have the chance to race on a dedicated track around the Your Action area and it’s a thrilling experience! This activity was quickly booked out and those who went appeared to have a great time moving around the track- except for the Scout that I watched tip sideways before regaining her balance and going upright again! Jack from C068 got a little too enthusiastic, saying he “hurt [his] thumbnail pressing on the trigger”, but Rudy from C068 was very proud to say that “it felt great coming first!”

Hatchet throwing is a classic for some of us who have attended camps like VicJam and Venture, but for others, this is a new experience. A Scout from Unit C038 was thrilled to have gotten his first bullseye, and Jasmine from the same unit said she “loved the challenge and the thrill of it.” With an experienced team leading the way with hatchet throwing, this sounds like an activity you wouldn’t want to miss!

Another novelty activity which I personally hadn’t seen before was the ‘blower soccer’. This involves playing soccer but only controlling the ball using a long leaf blower, which Noah from Unit T062 expressed was “more challenging than regular soccer”. His fellow Unit members were “pleased to have tried it” even though it was a challenge. Every goal was celebrated as if it were the biggest accomplishment ever- which for some, it was, given how hard it was to score! Frederick from Unit T040 also pointed out that it’s “the perfect day to be out playing soccer” and William from T040 agreed, stating how glad he was to be playing out in the sun.

Overall, there was really no shortage of things to do at Your Action. Everyone enjoyed the activities but also got a laugh out of watching others participating too. It was a buzzing atmosphere that was great to be around.
